4 Things to Try with Your Kids Before You Book a Disney Vacation

Taking your family on a trip to Disney or Universal is a big undertaking. For many families, it's a once-in-a-childhood experience, which adds pressure to the endeavor. Before you make the trek to Orlando or Anaheim, there are a few things you can do with your kiddos to assess whether or not they're ready! Or rather, whether you're ready to deal with them. These options are less expensive and faster to execute, so look into what's available in your area. 1. Local Theme Park, Fair or Carnival

Before hitting up the biggest and best theme parks, try a one-day visit that's more accessible. Checking out a place like this shows you how your family deals with going on different kinds of rides, waiting in lines, walking all day, being outside, etc. In addition to informing you about Disney readiness, it can be good dry run for the group.

2. Disney On Ice

With multiple tours going at once, there's a good chance at least one version of Disney on Ice is coming to a town near you in the next 6 months. This can be a great way to scratch the Disney itch between trips or gauge how interested your kids are in seeing Disney characters in "real life".

3. College/Semi-Pro Sporting Event

One of the easiest ways to see if your kids are up for character meet-and-greets is to check out a local game with mascot. If the larger-than-life costumes are exciting to them, great sign!

4. Live Character Show

Stage tours like Bluey's Big Play, Paw Patrol Live! and Peppa Pig Sing-Along Party are also great options for testing your kid's response to in-person characters. The kid-friendly run times are also good practice for watching fireworks and stage shows at the Disney Parks.

Someone wise once said, "a family vacation is just parenting somewhere else." A multi-day theme park trip can really put your patience to the test. So try out one or more of these lower-investment activities to see how your group feels about it! You may be more exited than ever to see your kids experience the magic of the parks. You may realize that you'd prefer to wait a year or two. There's no right or wrong timeline. And if you want the stress of planning the perfect trip off your plate, request a Custom Park Plan with free booking and strategizing.
